what does non wax mean ?
It's meant in relation to the 'Predator' 2010 Ultimate Hunter Edition Blu-Ray which has heavy DNR (Digital Noise Reduction filters) used in the remaster to get rid of the film grain.
All the applied DNR makes the skin on especially the actors faces look waxy or plastic like. It look strange and not like film.

Most HD movie purists (including me) like the HD (Blu-Ray) presentation of a movie to look exactly like the film negative or how the movie look on film.
and with older films shot on film compared to today where most movies are shot digitally, and therefore looks very smooth and extremely clear and with a little bit of grain texture, the older films shot on film has more grain (film grain), all dependent on how a specific scene is shot.
Fx is the scene lit with low light making the scene look dark can give the picture a heavy grain look. Even shot digitally that kind of scene can give heavy grain. For older films it has something to do about what kind of film stock the film where shot on ect.
Trying to remove heavy grain from older films shot on film removes the film look and fx creates waxy face looks, other artifacts and most importantly it degrades the quality of the overall picture quality.
So please, no digital filter manipulations of older films to remove grain. Keep the grain. We love the grain! :)

Anyway, luckily almost all the renown retail Blu-Ray releasers like The Criterion Collection, Shout Factory, Arrow ect. don't use filters to remove the grain, they keep it and the picture quality.
